Fabian Schär is a Swiss footballer who plays as a centre back for Premier League club Newcastle United. Starting his career at FC Wil 1900, he transferred to FC Basel in 2012. With Basel he won the Swiss Super League in all three of his seasons 2013, 2014 and 2015 before moving to 1899 Hoffenheim. After playing at the 2012 Olympics, he made his debut for the Swiss Senior National Team in 2013. Fabian represented the nation at the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups in Brazil and Russia and the UEFA Euro 2016 in France.
