Andreas Steindl

“For many people it might not make sense to have the desire to run up mountains. They might even think that I am recklessly risking my life. Whether it makes sense or not, everyone has their own wishes and dreams and no matter how crazy they might sound, we should make the most of our lives and risk something in order to realise those dreams. No matter what others think of me, I will always follow my dreams. Don’t dream your life, live your dream.”

Andreas Steindl is a Swiss mountain climber, ski mountaineer and mountain guide. Andreas was born in Zermatt, where he worked as a carpenter before he earned his mountain guide diploma in 2011. He also competes in alpine skiing and mountain running events. On August 27th, 2018 Andreas broke a world record in speed climbing. The 29-year-old sprinted from the Zermatt Kirchplatz (1616 metres) to the peak of the Matterhorn (4477.5 metres) and back down to Zermatt – a total of 22.8 kilometres and 2861 metres of altitude – in only 3 hours 59 minutes and 52 seconds. This is about the same amount of time that a normal mountain climber would need to reach the peak of the Matterhorn from the Hörnlihütte (3260 m).
